Dr. John Pfenninger Receives AAFP Honor For Career Contributions In Medicine

ST. LOUIS, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Elsevier Health Science announces best-selling author, John Pfenninger, MD, FAAFP, received the American Academy of Family Physicians' (AAFP) 2005 Thomas W. Johnson Award for career contributions on September 28 at the AAFP convention in San Francisco.

According to the AAFP, Dr. Pfenninger was chosen for the honor for his groundbreaking text, Pfenninger and Fowler's Procedures for Primary Care, 2nd Edition, as well as for his work as Director at the National Procedures Institute (NPI), as examples of the contributions he's made to change the way family medicine is perceived and practiced.

This is Dr. Pfenninger's second award in 2005. In April he received the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine's (STFM) 2005 Teaching Excellence Award. He was the first non-academic to receive the distinction.

"With his diligent work as lead author of the groundbreaking text Procedures for Primary Care, and his important role with the NPI, Dr. Pfenninger is certainly deserving of his recent accolades," said Rolla C. Couchman, Acquisitions Editor, Elsevier. "We are proud to include such a distinguished medical professional in our publishing family."

In addition to his writing responsibilities, Dr. Pfenninger serves as Advisory Editor for Elsevier's FIRST Consult, a web- and PDA-based clinical information system for medical professionals. He is also Clinical Professor, Department of Family Practice at Michigan State College of Human Medicine.
