Dr. Hans-Joachim Bohm Named President Of Roche Palo Alto

PALO ALTO, Calif., Dec. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Roche has announced that Hans-Joachim Bohm, Ph.D., has been appointed president of Roche Palo Alto LLC. As president, Dr. Bohm is responsible for managing a research site focused on early discovery in three of Roche's therapy areas: Virology, Neurosciences and Autoimmunity, Inflammation and Transplantation. He also serves as a member of the Research Management Team, which is responsible for allocating resources, implementing portfolio strategy and approving global initiatives. Bohm succeeds Robert B. Stein, MD, Ph.D., who recently assumed another position within the Roche global organization. Bohm will report to Jonathan Knowles, Ph.D., head of Global Research for Roche.

Bohm's previous position was Director of Safety and Technical Sciences for Roche in Basel, Switzerland. With more than 18 years of international experience in pharmaceutical research and development, Bohm has broad expertise in drug target identification, clinical candidate selection, early clinical development, informatics and management.

Bohm earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in chemistry from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany. He joined Roche Basel in 1996 as head of molecular design and bioinformatics, and since then has held a series of positions within the organization. Prior to Roche, Bohm worked in a variety of companies including Siemens and BASF, was a visiting research scientist at the University of Cambridge, and taught at the University of Karlsruhe and the University of Basel, Switzerland.
