EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., Jan. 19, 2006 /PRNewswire/ -- CIGNA Behavioral Health (CBH) today announced the formation of a new Clinical Leadership Team featuring National Medical Directors. Under the leadership of Jodi Aronson Prohofsky, Ph.D., senior vice president of operations for CBH, the new clinical team will continue to grow the company’s industry-leading Care Advocacy program, which allows members to self-refer for basic mental health issues. The new National Medical Directors are Doug Nemecek, M.D. and Craig Coenson, M.D.
Dr. Aronson Prohofsky is responsible for integrating medical and behavioral health quality, efficiency, customer service, claims and medical economics. A noted author and lecturer on behavioral health conditions, Dr. Aronson Prohofsky has served in a wide range of positions with CBH and was instrumental in establishing the company’s nationally recognized Care Advocacy Program. She is a licensed marriage and family therapist and holds a doctorate degree in social and systemic studies (family therapy) from Nova University.
Dr. Doug Nemecek oversees clinical operations and clinical coordination of the CBH Quality program. He also serves as the chief medical liaison between CBH and CIGNA HealthCare medical leadership on integration, quality, and operational issues. Prior to joining CBH in 2002, Dr. Nemecek was the executive medical director for Allina Behavioral Health Services. He also had ten years of clinical experience with inpatient and outpatient psychiatric practice before he joined CBH. Dr. Nemecek holds a medical degree from Washington University (St. Louis) and received his M.B.A. from the University of St. Thomas (Minneapolis).
Dr. Craig Coenson ensures that behavioral health services are delivered appropriately and efficiently. As part of the Clinical Leadership Team, Dr. Coenson provides detailed clinical data to the team and CBH customers to strengthen the depth and breadth of behavioral health care services. Before joining CBH, Dr. Coenson held leadership positions at Kaiser Permanente in Northern California and in private practice. Dr. Coenson earned his M.D. and B.S. degrees from Tulane University School of Medicine (New Orleans).
Drs. Nemecek and Coenson will co-chair a newly formed Corporate Clinical Strategy Council, which will provide senior-level company support for the organization’s quality programs.
