Bioscience Neds Launches To Help Emerging Businesses Drive Growth

A new company which will help emerging life science businesses find Non- Executive Directors (NED’s) and Non-Executive Chairmen (NEC’s) has been launched in the East of England.

Bioscience NED’s is the sister company to PiR Interims, a leading provider of interim talent to the life science sector. The company will work with emerging businesses to identify NED’s and NEC’s who have a track record of supporting, growing, and turning companies around, in tough market conditions.

‘The inspiration for the business followed extensive market research,’ comments MD Carolyn Douthwaite. ‘We discovered there was a gap in the market for a business which both understands the life sciences sector and has access to a talent pool of professionals who can make a difference and bring balance to Boards in challenging times. Setting up Bioscience NED’s to match emerging businesses with experienced professionals seemed like a natural step.’

‘It has been a difficult period for early stage, investor-funded life science businesses, many of which have difficult issues to balance,’ adds Carolyn. ‘Funding, robust leadership and being focused on the right objectives are key to survival.’

Bioscience NED’s has already made a notable appointment with Jeff Solomon joining the business as an advisor; Jeff is well known to the bioscience community through his leadership of ERBI, the not-for-profit organisation that he led for 11 years. He is currently Chairman of the Council for European Bioregions and a Non-Executive Director for Myeloma UK and The Cambridge Phenomenon Ltd.

‘I am very excited about taking this project forward,’ says Jeff. ‘Non-Executive Directors give emerging businesses the experience they need to make the right decisions during a critical period of their growth. We want to help businesses move forward and matching them with people who have the right contacts and experience will contribute to their long-term success.’

‘I feel privileged to be working with Jeff,’ adds Carolyn. ‘He is highly regarded by the bioscience sector - as his track record reflects - as well as being passionate and committed to the sector. He understands how portfolio careers can be a huge benefit for both individuals and the companies who benefit from their expertise.’

Bioscience NEDs has an extensive network of senior and Board-level contacts within the pharmaceutical, biotech and medtech industries and is committed to matching emerging companies with NED/NEC candidates who can really make a difference.
