AMSilk: Distribution Agreement With RAHN In The Field Of Personal Care

Planegg, March 22, 2016 – AMSilk GmbH, the world’s first industrial supplier of synthetic silk biopolymers, has joined forces with the Zurich-based company RAHN AG in an agreement to distribute two innovative ingredients, Silkgel and Silkbeads. AMSilk, which has its headquarters in Planegg near Munich, Germany, will have RAHN distribute its products to manufacturers of personal care products in several European countries.

AMSilk’s ingredients Silkgel (hydrogel) and Silkbeads (microparticles) contain silk biopolymers which are manufactured using a unique biotechnological process. They give personal care products functional properties such as creating a breathable shield against harmful environmental factors and bacteria; they can also store and transport ingredients thereby prolonging their efficacy. Thanks to excellent formulation properties, AMSilk biopolymers can easily be integrated into personal care products.

Expanding distribution in Europe

Today Silkgel and Silkbeads are being successfully used in more and more personal care and cosmetic products in Asian countries as well. To expand distribution in Europe, AMSilk has now signed an agreement with the Swiss company RAHN about selling Silkgel and Silkbeads in several European countries.

RAHN will distribute AMSilk products in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Monaco, Great Britain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Poland. At the same time, AMSilk will distribute its products in territories and fields of application RAHN does not cover.

The RAHN-Group is a family-owned Swiss company based in Zurich and operating worldwide since more than 75 years. As an innovative technology company RAHN offers natural and synthetic raw materials and active ingredients for demanding industries, in particular for the cosmetics industry. The company is active in more than 45 countries. Thanks to the combination of high quality products with proven expertise and comprehensive services RAHN provides customers with tailor-made integrated solutions.

Numerous functional uses in the field of personal care

Personal care and cosmetic products which feature silk biopolymers have valuable unique properties: silk biopolymers act like a second skin by offering protection against harmful environmental factors and bacteria. This does not impact the skin’s breathability. Furthermore, silk biopolymers keep both cosmetic and medical ingredients on the skin for longer time periods, allowing them to better develop their effects. Silkbeads also ensure that the skin retains moisture longer. They create a matte effect by absorbing excess sebum, the skin’s natural oil. Furthermore, Silkbeads can generate wrinkle-minimizing “soft-focus” effects in anti-aging products. The hypoallergenic and biocompatible AMSilk biopolymers are well-tolerated by the skin and were awarded the ranking “very good” by the Dermatest research institute.

Broad spectrum of applications for AMSilk biopolymers

In addition to personal care cosmetic products, AMSilk is currently focusing on using silk biopolymers in the fields of medical technology and industrial applications & textiles.

In medical technology, implants and medical products of all kinds can be coated with silk biopolymers to achieve greater tolerability and reduce adverse effects. AMSilk’s development projects at the moment include breast implants featuring an AMSilk biopolymer coating. In the textile industry, AMSilk and its partners are developing early product prototypes.
