American Community Introduces Innovative Small Group Health Plan

LIVONIA, Mich., May 25 /PRNewswire/ -- As health insurance premiums increase, many smaller employers struggle to offer desirable coverage that is affordable both for their companies and their employees. To address this critical need, American Community Mutual Insurance Company, a leading provider of individual and group health insurance, introduces an innovative plan for Michigan's small employers that enables them to customize health and other insurance to suit their particular requirements.

American's Preferred Advantage Plan, a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan, provides far more flexibility than typical health plans for employers with 2 to 50 eligible employees. A "menu" of inpatient and outpatient health services offers four different levels of coverage for network and non-network care. In addition, the plan includes a wide range of options for prescription drugs, dental and vision care, income protection for disabled and ill employees, as well as accident and life insurance.

"We're excited to offer this innovative new plan to Michigan's small-group employers," said American Community's Jim Stults, Vice President, Group Sales. "The American's Preferred Advantage Plan provides a new level of flexibility, so each employer can offer the coverage that best meets their employees' needs."

Under this plan, employers can select specific features that are important for their workforce, as well as the deductible amounts, employee co-payments for office visits and a choice of four benefit percentage levels (ranging from 70 to 100 percent) for network care. They can customize a benefit package with a broad range of health and ancillary services, such as vision care and life insurance, or choose fewer service options with lower deductibles and employee co-payments.

In addition, responding to employer feedback, American Community increased preventive-care coverage, and out-of-state health coverage is provided through a national PPO network. "American's Preferred Advantage Plan enables both employers and employees to invest their benefit dollars in the areas that are most critical to them. Now, smaller employers have a range of options not previously available to them," adds Stults.
