Patients calling AstraZeneca’s U.S. customer service center in Fairfax may soon be patched through to the Philippines. The British drug giant, which has its U.S. headquarters off Concord Pike in Fairfax, is dumping 30 local call-center contractors and shipping their jobs overseas. Workers in the center here take calls from patients using AstraZeneca’s medicines or company vendors with questions or complaints, according to AstraZeneca. About 30 employees will remain in the call center. Others, who work directly for Ivyland, Pa.-based Alliance Healthcare Information, were notified that they’d lose their jobs on Tuesday night, hours before President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address, which focused heavily on keeping jobs in the U.S.
