Aspirin May Prevent Stroke in Patients with Peripheral Artery Disease, University of Colorado Study

MedPage Today -- LITTLE FALLS, N.J., May 12 -- Aspirin, with or without dipyridamole, may reduce the risk of stroke in patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD), according to a meta-analysis. Among 18 randomized trials, aspirin therapy yielded a nonsignificant decrease in the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, or cardiovascular death (RR 0.88, 95% CI 0.76 to 1.04), according to William Hiatt, M.D., of the University of Colorado Denver, and colleagues.
