Former CSO of Secretive Moderna Emerges at PureTech After Departing Last Year

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PureTech Health plc (“PureTech” or the “Company”, LSE: PRTC), a cross-disciplinary biotech company developing 21^st century medicines, today announced the appointment of Joseph Bolen, Ph.D., as the Company’s Chief Scientific Officer. In this new role, Dr. Bolen will lead the scientific development and advancement of PureTech’s pipeline and will work closely with the team and Scientific Advisory Board as the Company identifies and pursues new modalities to address significant medical needs.

Joseph Bolen brings to PureTech decades of industry experience in immunology and oncology, having overseen the discovery and advancement of more than 30 drugs into clinical development including Velcade®, Entyvio® and Ninlaro®. Dr. Bolen most recently oversaw all aspects of research and development for Moderna Therapeutics as President and Chief Scientific Officer. Previously, he was Chief Scientific Officer and Global Head of Oncology Research at Millennium: The Takeda Oncology Company. Prior to joining Millennium in 1999, Dr. Bolen held senior R&D positions at Hoechst Marion Roussel, Schering-Plough (DNAX), and Bristol-Myers Squibb. He began his career at the NIH, where he contributed to the discovery of a class of proteins known as tyrosine kinase oncogenes as key regulators of the immune system. Dr. Bolen graduated from the University of Nebraska with a B.S. degree in Microbiology & Chemistry and a Ph.D. in Immunology and conducted his postdoctoral training in Molecular Virology at the Kansas State University Cancer Center.
