SEATTLE, July 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Amnis Corporation announced today the release of a major performance upgrade to its flagship ImageStream system for imaging of cells in flow. Nicknamed ‘Turbo,’ the upgrade greatly expands the speed, flexibility, and reliability of the technology.
The Turbo upgrade provides a 3-5X increase in the speed of data collection, allowing many more samples to be run in a day. Sensitivity has improved by more than a factor of two and extensive engineering changes have significantly improved the system’s reliability. Finally, a large number of modifications to the IDEAS(R) and INSPIRE(R) software packages make the ImageStream even easier and more intuitive to operate. The Turbo upgrade is now standard on all ImageStream systems.
“Release of the Turbo upgrade represents an important milestone for Amnis,” said David Basiji, Ph.D., Amnis’ President and CEO. “The ImageStream system generates far more useful cellular image information than conventional flow cytometry and now has the same workflow. As a result, Amnis’ customers are buying the ImageStream system as a direct replacement for their flow cytometers.”
William Ortyn, Amnis’ COO, added, “Even with the speed increase of Turbo, the ImageStream system has higher fluorescence sensitivity than flow cytometers, particularly for small objects like yeast, bacteria, and sub-cellular features. Our combination of speed, sensitivity, and data richness is unmatched by any technology in the market.”
Amnis is providing the Turbo upgrade at no charge to all of its existing customers in recognition of their early support for the technology and expects to have every ImageStream system upgraded by the end of the year.
Amnis Corporation, headquartered in Seattle, WA, develops, manufactures and markets the ImageStream system for high speed imaging of cells in flow. With the Turbo upgrade, the system can now generate six high resolution microscopic images of cells as they flow through the instrument at rates up to 300 cells per second. The system is unique in its ability to image tens of thousands of cells in minutes without the need to make slides. The IDEAS image analysis package, an integral part of the ImageStream system, is a highly sophisticated yet easy to use tool for processing hundreds of thousands of images at a time. IDEAS enables highly advanced research applications in hematology, immunology, oncology and provides a critical foundation for the company’s clinical applications development.
