San Francisco – A former teammate of Lance Armstrong won the Amgen Tour of California, an eight day race which beaded professional cyclists along the glimmering California coast.
American Floyd Landis, 30, took charge of the race on Wednesday, maintaining a 29-second lead over his teammates. David Zabriskie finished second and Bobby Julich finished third.
The 966 km race had 127 cyclists at the start and ended with 97 after passing through 10 starting and finishing cities.
Landis earned $15,000 of the race’s $150,000 total prize money. The proceeds of the tour will go towards cancer care and treatment. Amgen, the tour’s title sponsor will work with the Wellness Community and George Hincapie, Team Discovery member through the Breakaway from Cancer (TM) Initiative to raise awareness and money for services and programs that benefit cancer patients and care-givers.
