April 18, 2011 -- 3D, the developer and supplier of the CarieScan PRO, the award winning hand held device for the early detection and monitoring of dental caries (tooth decay) is pleased to announce that its subsidiary CarieScan Limited has signed an exclusive distribution agreement for India with Analytical and Medical Technologies (“AMT”). This follows the announcement last week of an agreement with Wisdom International Medical Science and Technology Co. Ltd for the Chinese Market.
AMT has 40 direct employees and distributes its products through 28 sub dealers across the country. The company has its main office located in Mumbai with a further 9 regional offices. AMT specialises in the importation of innovative high technology dental products from around the world. Training dental personnel on the use of these products is a key element of AMT’s business success. The company has good contacts with the 270 dental colleges registered in India.
The expansion of dental education has been enormous over the past 10 years and in the coming years a further 27,000 new dentists (a number broadly equivalent to the number of dentists currently in practice in the UK) are anticipated to qualify out of the dental schools each year. Most of these dentists are expected to progress into private practice to meet the healthcare needs of an increasingly affluent Indian society.
No additional regulatory approvals are required for the CarieScan PRO to be offered for sale in India and an initial 30 units are expected to be shipped in the near future.
Commenting, Graham Lay, Chief Executive Officer of 3D said: “I am very pleased with this expansion of the Company’s presence in the region. The potential for growth within the Indian market is believed to be significant and this is a welcome addition to our recent agreement covering China and to our other agreements covering the whole of North America as well as Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the UK in Europe. Discussions with potential distribution partners in other territories are on-going and we look forward to making further announcements in due course. ”
Dr Anil Ramachandran, the director of AMT and himself a qualified dentist said: “CarieScan is an excellent addition to the product offering of AMT to its dentist customers in India. It is complimentary to many other products within our portfolio which require education and training of the clinician. The expansion of dental care in India is dramatic and we believe that the demand for improved diagnosis of dental diseases in India will be a part of this development. We are certain that CarieScan will be well received by both patients and clinicians as more preventive treatment programmes are offered.”
