Nearly half of the younger siblings of children who have autism spectrum disorder (ASD) develop more slowly than normal, a new study by the UC Davis Mind Institute and UCLA shows. According to the research, out of 294 infant siblings of children with autism spectrum disorder studied, 17 percent developed ASD and an additional 28 percent showed delays in other areas of development or behavior. Researchers found that atypical development could be detected as early as 1 year old.
