Experts from the World Health Organisation (WHO) have began an audit and inspection of three Nigerian pharmaceutical companies with a view to enhancing their potentials and standards towards attaining the WHO prequalification of medicines produced in the country. Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Dr. Paul Orhii, affirmed to the WHO team that the Federal Government is indeed committed towards the realisation of the WHO prequalification (WHO -PQ) requirements. He noted the importance of WHO prequalification but lamented that “it is a shame that in spite of the population of Nigeria, not even one pharmaceutical company in Nigeria has attained WHO prequalification standard.”
