SAN FRANCISCO, July 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Velos, Inc., the trusted leader in clinical research management systems, announced a major step in its ever-advancing mission to meet the needs of customers. “Velos On-Demand,” a software as a service (SaaS) delivery model, is now being rolled out more broadly for the Velos eResearch product line. The SaaS model brings new economies and benefits that support individual studies and departments within research institutions, as well as smaller research sites and biotechnology companies throughout the U.S. and internationally. Velos On-Demand lets customers deploy all, or parts of, the Velos eResearch system when needed, without up front capital expenditure.
“Velos On-Demand further enables researchers to obtain rapid, affordable access to leading clinical trial management system services,” said John S. McIlwain, President and CEO of Velos. “A pure Internet platform solution, Velos eResearch has long been available in a SaaS model but we have not really focused on growing the SaaS delivery model, focusing instead on the larger medical research centers. Velos On-Demand is suited to a wider range of customers. These include but are not limited to: clinical trials offices that might not have budgets for larger enterprise rollouts; individual investigators; biotechnology companies; SMOs; and smaller CROs.”
Velos On-Demand is harnessing a delivery system by which dynamically scalable and often virtualized system resources are provided as a service over the Internet. Resources are consumed as a service and organizations pay only for the resources they use. Software is hosted and safeguarded by a third party, (in this case, Velos and its suppliers). As with a utility, software is delivered to customers only as needed. Service is paid for either as consumed or on a subscription basis. Velos On-Demand is being provisioned through service level agreements, as well as individually by study or user. Use of Velos On-Demand can be initiated through a simple registration process. Services are supported by one of a number of support and training packages designed to move customers into production quickly and reliably.
Customers are enthusiastic with the resulting flexibility and speed. Henry J. Pollack, MD, Associate Professor, Department of Pediatrics, NYU, uses Velos On-Demand for clinical research being conducted in North and South America. “Within two weeks we had our forms up,” stated Dr. Pollack. “With another system, it would have been months. I also credit the commitment of my staff as one of the elements that contributed to that speed.”
