ORANGE, Calif., Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- UC Irvine, School of Medicine will be hosting the first Pacific Rim Robotics International Symposium and Advanced Robotic Techniques (ART) of Prostatectomy Course on January 5-7, 2006 in Anaheim, California at the Hyatt Regency Orange County.
The Pacific Rim Robotics International Symposium is expected to draw 300-500 physicians and is designed to provide an in-depth understanding of the impact of robotic surgery in five specialty areas. It is a first of its kind two-day symposium featuring an international perspective on multi-disciplinary surgical techniques in robotic surgery. Directed by UCI professors, Dr. Ralph V. Clayman and Dr. Elspeth M. McDougall, the symposium will include expert lectures, videos, poster sessions, exhibits, and live operating room broadcasts of surgical robotic procedures in Urology, General Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Obstetrics/Gynecology, and Neurosurgery. In addition, sessions have been created so that interested surgeons can obtain either their basic robotic certification or complete a three day robotic prostatectomy course. This is the first multi-disciplinary, surgical robotic symposium to be held in the United States to date. It is anticipated that this course will be an annual event alternating among Pacific Rim sites in North America, Australia/New Zealand, and Asia.
The Advanced Robots Technique Course will be a one-day course focused on the advances in technology and the latest in surgical approaches as they relate to laparoscopic, robotic-assisted radical prostatectomies. This is the second ART course to be given in the United States, and the first one to come to the West Coast.
A faculty of international experts in their respective fields will compliment the speaker agenda, and there will be opportunities for medical device, robotics and biomedical industry leaders to demonstrate the newest technologies.
