Tufts Medical Center Signs IONM Agreement with Impulse Monitoring, Inc.

COLUMBIA, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Impulse Monitoring, Inc. (IMI), a leading provider of intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) services to hospitals, today announced that it has signed an agreement with Tufts Medical Center, Boston to provide comprehensive IONM services, including real-time physician oversight. “A commitment to teaching, research and providing the highest standard of patient care are at the core of our mission,” said Carl Heilman MD, Chairman, Department of Neurosurgery. “In keeping with that commitment, neuromonitoring is essential to excellence in surgical care.”

IONM assesses neurological function involving the brain, spinal cord and related nerve structures during such surgeries. Use of IONM facilitates the surgical process and can reduce surgical risk by providing alerts to surgeons of potential harm to the spinal cord or neural structures. Under the Impulse Monitoring model, technicians or neurophysiologists located in the operating room work in partnership with supervising physicians who oversee the interpretation of neurophysiological data gathered via real-time broadband transmission.
