The Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse Names John W. Manzetti Chief Executive Officer

PITTSBURGH, Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse (PLSG), the private/public partnership dedicated to moving the region's life sciences industry forward on a fast track for growth, announced today that John W. Manzetti has been named the PLSG's new President and Chief Executive Officer. The appointment is the result of the PLSG Board of Directors' succession planning process and is effective immediately. Manzetti joined the PLSG as an Executive-in-Residence in July and was named Chief Operating Officer in September. Prior to joining the PLSG, Manzetti was President and Chief Executive Officer of NOMOS Corporation, a leader in the field of radiation therapy for cancer patients. Manzetti succeeds Doros Platika, who earlier this fall announced his resignation as the PLSG's CEO, effective November 30, 2006.

"We are fortunate to have an individual of John Manzetti's caliber taking the helm as the PLSG's President and CEO," said the PLSG Board's co-chairs, Carnegie Mellon University President Jared Cohon and University of Pittsburgh Chancellor Mark A. Nordenberg, in a prepared statement. "John is an industry veteran with a long history of success. His experience and relationships within the technology and investment communities, as well as his proven leadership skills, will be essential as the PLSG moves into its next phase of growth. Since joining the PLSG last summer, John has been enormously proactive, focusing on investing in life sciences companies, re-establishing key collaborative relationships in the local and governmental communities, and charting a new course for the future of the PLSG. John has the full support of the entire PLSG Board as he works to build a strong management team in furtherance of the PLSG's mission," Nordenberg and Cohon added.

"I am honored by the Board's vote of confidence in me, and I look forward to the opportunity to provide the PLSG with vigorous leadership as we continue to pursue our goal of building a robust, sustainable hub of life sciences commercialization activity in southwestern Pennsylvania," said Manzetti.
