The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Greater Bay Area Chapter will host the Leukemia Cup Regatta on October 20 and 21 at the Corinthian Yacht Club in Tiburon, CA.
SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 2, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society‘s (LLS) Greater Bay Area Chapter will host the Leukemia Cup Regatta on October 20 and 21 at the Corinthian Yacht Club in Tiburon, CA. Celebrating its 13th year, the Bay Area event has raised more than $8 million to support LLS’s cutting-edge cancer research and patient services. This year’s fundraising goal is $1 million. The two-day event will include special guest speakers including seven-time world champion sailor, Malcolm Page, and award-winning TV commentator and producer, Tucker Thompson.
With the support of Hannig Law and other sponsors, sailors from around the Bay Area will raise more than sails to honor local blood cancer patients. Local survivors will be recognized as “Honorary Skippers.” This year’s Honorary Skippers include; Gale Greisen, Bob Groenke, Steven Johnson, Chris Kostanecki, Rhett Krawitt, Brit Lacey, Chris Laub, Douglas Owen, Campbell Nolan, Lynne Spiller, Zach Thoma, and Robert Wilson.
Events taking place:
- On October 20, the fourth annual Perkins Challenge will launch from the St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco at 12 p.m. PDT. This event is a sailing competition among prominent Bay Area companies who will compete for the Perkins Trophy, named after the late Honorary Chairman, Thomas Perkins. The trophy will be presented to the winning team at the VIP Gala that evening at the Corinthian Yacht Club.
- On October 21, the Leukemia Cup Regatta race will begin with a sponsor breakfast at 10 a.m. at the Corinthian Yacht Club and sailors will board at 11:30 a.m. PDT. Over 100 sailors are expected to race from all around the San Francisco Bay while the Honorary Skippers, spectators, and sponsors will watch the races from a beautiful yacht. All sailors and their guests are invited to return to the yacht club for an awards celebration and a barbecue at 4 p.m. PDT.
