Spire announced today its forthcoming app for Apple Watch. Spire, a small stone-like device that measures breathing to gain insight into state of mind, delivers value to its users through real-time notifications that identify moments of tension, focus and calm. With only a glance, the Apple Watch’s notification capabilities seamlessly provides Spire users with rich feedback and guides them to greater calm and focus throughout the day.
“We are excited to be bringing digital health to a post-phone world,” said Jonathan Palley, Spire co-founder and CEO. “Spire users are already achieving healthier and more productive days with the notifications and insights our device provides. Through our Apple Watch app, we are able to do even more: a user need only to glance down for a second to gain a powerful health insight rather than pull out a phone, punch in a pass code or fumble with the device at all. The pairing of these two devices lets our users stay in the moment and flow no matter what they are doing.”
Spire’s app sends a gentle notification to a user’s wrist indicating streaks of tension or inactivity, reminding them to take a deep breath or get moving, and offers short breathing exercises designed to increase calm, focus and energy. These in app “boosts” are designed to shift state of mind with guided breathing exercises that function as mini-meditations. 75% of the time, Spire has measured breathing patterns that correspond to lower blood pressure and cortisol levels within 90 seconds of sending a tension notification.
“Breath has proven to be the richest bio-signal to the brain, allowing rare insights into a person’s state of mind,” said Dr. Neema Moraveji, Spire co-founder and chief science officer. “It is a physiological factor that we can easily control, and a small amount of awareness can have an enormous impact on your day. The Spire Apple Watch app will allow us to provide our users with those deeply personal insights without an additional distraction in their day.”
With a retail price of $149, Spire ships with a washer proof clip-on device, wireless charging pad and iOS app and is available at www.Spire.io and Amazon.com. The Spire Apple Watch app will be available from the Apple Watch App Store beginning April 24. The Spire app for iPhone is available now as a free download from the App Store.
About Spire
State of mind affects how a person breathes. But how they breathe can also change their state of mind. Studies have shown how slow, deep and consistent breathing can lower blood pressure, reduce stress and increase the flow of endorphins in the blood stream. While unobtrusively clipped to your pants or bra, Spire is the only wearable that measures breathing in real-time and provides feedback for a more focused, calm and productive day. When a person experiences streaks of tension or inactivity, Spire’s accompanying iOS app sends a gentle reminder to take a deep breath or get moving. In app “boosts” are designed to shift state of mind with guided breathing exercises that function as mini-meditations. Winner of the 2014 Cooper Hewitt + Smithsonian People’s Design award, Spire was designed to not only be functional, but aesthetically pleasing. Spire charges on an included wireless charging pad, features a 7-day battery and is washer proof. SRP $149.99.
