Spice Alert To Affect Indian Turmeric, Paprika

All imports of spices, including chilli powder, turmeric, paprika and cayenne pepper are to be subjected to rigorous new tests after an alert that they contain illegal dyelinked to cancer. This is the most serious alert after the one that led to the recall of over £100 million food times from super stores and markets.The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is insisting on the stringent import checks, which might begin next week. Turmeric and paprika from India will be put to the new proposed tests. Chilli and cayenne from Pakistan will be subjected to similar tests. Chilli from Italy, Mexico and South America will also have similar tests.
