CRANBURY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Spectroscopy®, a multimedia platform that promotes the use of spectroscopic instrumentation in applied research, environmental testing, quality control, and the life sciences, and the Society for Applied Spectroscopy (SAS), are pleased to announce a joint virtual conference, “Molecular Spectroscopy in Practice,” taking place July 22–23.

“We are honored to be able to work with the SAS to present a joint virtual conference this summer,” said Mike Hennessy Jr., president and CEO of MJH Life Sciences™, the parent company of Spectroscopy®. “It is great that we can collaborate during this uncertain time to provide critical, accurate information to molecular spectroscopists and analytical laboratory staff working with molecular spectroscopy techniques in the field.”

The two-day virtual conference is broken up into two different topics. The first day, Wednesday, July 22, will cover Raman spectroscopy, and the second day, Thursday, July 23, will focus on infrared (IR) spectroscopy. Each day will feature a morning and an afternoon session. The morning sessions will provide three 20-minute tutorials on fundamentals, followed by a Q&A period with all the speakers. In the afternoon sessions, speakers will give 20-minute talks providing tips, tricks, and troubleshooting.

The sessions are listed below:

  • Wednesday, July 22: Raman Spectroscopy

Morning Session: Molecular Spectroscopy in Practice: Raman Spectroscopy

  • Raman Theory and Instrumentation, with Ashley N. Allen, Ph.D., Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
  • Important Characteristics of Ramen Spectroscopy, with Peter J. Larkin, Ph.D., Cytec Solvay
  • Raman Spectroscopy’s Coming of Age, with Ashley N. Allen, Ph.D., Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

Afternoon Session: Raman Spectroscopy Tips, Tricks, and Troubleshooting

  • A series of short talks providing tips, tricks, and troubleshooting for Raman spectroscopy.
  • Thursday, July 23: Infrared (IR) Spectroscopy

Morning Session: Molecular Spectroscopy in Practice: Infrared Spectroscopy

  • Pitfalls and Challenges of Infrared Sample Preparation, with Jenni Briggs, Ph.D., Pike Technologies
  • Infrared Microscopy – Why Would You Want to Use It? with Ellen V. Miseo, Ph.D., TeakOrigin
  • Strategies and Resources for Successful Infrared Spectral Interpretation, with Peter J. Larkin, Ph.D., Cytec Solvay

Afternoon Session: Infrared Spectroscopy Tips, Tricks, and Troubleshooting

  • A series of short talks providing tips, tricks, and troubleshooting for infrared spectroscopy.

The Society for Applied Spectroscopy (SAS) is pleased to collaborate with Spectroscopy® in this virtual symposium,” said Richard Crocombe, president of the Society for Applied Spectroscopy. “SAS appreciates the support that Spectroscopy® gives to this initiative, its reach beyond SAS’s membership, and its recognition of early career personnel in this field. SAS is restarting its education and training program after a hiatus of many years and looks forward to continuing this relationship. We will be announcing other education and training initiatives in the coming weeks.”
