Simulated Surgical Systems, LLC Release: Robotic Surgery Simulator (RoSS) II To Be Unveiled At AUA 2015 In New Orleans

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Simulated Surgical Systems (SSS) will announce the official release of its newly redesigned robotic surgery simulator, RoSS II, at the 2015 American Urology Association (AUA) exhibition in New Orleans, LA from May 16-19. The portable, stand-alone RoSS II console boasts improved graphics and visualization, enhanced physics, a smaller size and decreased weight.

Simulated Surgical Systems will demo the RoSS II in booth # 1454.

After the change in management and relocation of their headquarters to San Jose, California, SSS made the RoSS II project their first order of business. “At IMSH earlier this year, we received a lot of feedback about the RoSS from our customers and other healthcare professionals,” said Thomas Sanford, chief financial officer. “We have used this feedback to target specific improvements and will continue to focus on modifications that enhance user experience and increase affordability.”

The RoSS II will be made available to the public immediately after the conclusion of AUA. For additional detail on the RoSS II or for other inquiries, please contact SSS at info@simulatedsurgicals.com.

About Simulated Surgical Systems LLC

Founded in 2009, Simulated Surgical Systems, LLC is a pioneer in the development of simulation for robot-assisted surgery. Our goal is to provide safe, practical, and efficient robot-assisted surgery training to novice surgeons, thus reducing surgical error and making robot-assisted surgical education feasible. To help achieve this, Simulated Surgical Systems offers both its robotic surgery simulator (RoSS) and proprietary Hand-on Surgical Training (HoST) modules.

The RoSS simulator is based on extensive research conducted with collaboration between the robotic surgery department at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (Buffalo, NY) and the virtual reality laboratory at the University of Buffalo. This team combines the experiences of over a thousand surgical procedures with virtual reality medical simulation technology.

HoST (Hands-on Surgical Training) is a ground-breaking new technology developed for learning robot-assisted surgical procedures. It is only available on the RoSS. With the use of haptics, the RoSS’s HoST system guides the user’s hands through the operative steps of a real procedure, prompting the user to interact with the machine. HoST uses the principles of checklist-based learning, meaning the user can only proceed through the procedure after successfully learning and executing each step. User performance metrics are recorded so that progress can be tracked.
