Sigma-Aldrich Corporation and Ingenuity Systems Announce Partnership to Create E-Commerce Search Solution Based on Biological Knowledge

ST. LOUIS, Sept. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sigma-Aldrich and Ingenuity Systems today announced a partnership to develop a revolutionary new search capability to enhance the Sigma-Aldrich Web-based customer experience. Under the terms of the agreement, Sigma-Aldrich will leverage Ingenuity’s knowledge base and integrate its search technology into Sigma-Aldrich’s life science product portfolio. Ingenuity’s knowledge base is the world’s largest and highest quality repository of biological and chemical networks created from millions of expert curated relationships among proteins, genes, complexes, cells, tissues, drugs, and diseases.

The new search capability will be freely available to researchers to enable them to rapidly locate and purchase the Sigma-Aldrich products most relevant to their research. The search capability will enable researchers to understand those products in a content-rich environment of highly relevant biological and chemical relationships.

Dr. David Smoller, President of Sigma-Aldrich’s Research Biotech business unit, said, “Customers will not only be able to now utilize our search tools such as Your Favorite Gene(TM) (http://www.sigma.com/yfg), a Web-based tool that enables life science researchers to match gene information to thousands of Sigma-Aldrich products against their gene of interest, but this partnership will also extend customers’ searches to much broader biological queries around disease, function, and pathways.”

Jake Leschly, CEO of Ingenuity, added, “Today’s increasing emphasis on a systems view of biology is requiring scientists to design their experiments based on a more complete and dynamic understanding of biology. Through this innovative partnership with Sigma-Aldrich, we will enable researchers to leverage the breath of Ingenuity’s knowledge and technology to gain scientific insight and to immediately translate this into more effective experimental designs and better selection of Sigma-Aldrich products.”
