The 14th Congress of the Central American and Caribbean Association for Parasitology and Tropical Medicine (Asociación Centroamericana y del Caribe de Parasitología y Medicina Tropical - ACACPMT) will take place from July 11-13. The theme of the congress is The One Health Triad as a Foundation for Prevention and Control of Tropical Diseases. The event will also celebrate the 30th anniversary of the ACACPMT.

A large range of parasitic and tropical diseases will be discussed, especially those endemic to Central America and the Caribbean. Sessions will focus on viral diseases, such as measles and rotavirus, arboviruses including Zika, dengue and chikungunya, and neglected tropical diseases, including snake bite envenoming and cysticercosis (larval tapeworm cysts), which recently made headlines in the United States.

Held every two years, the ACACPMT Congress offers researchers, doctors, veterinarians, policy-makers, scientists, public health professionals and students an excellent opportunity to meet and learn from one another, with the aim of building initiatives that can be applicable to societal needs.

“The 14th ACACPMT Congress promises to be an inspiring event, providing a unique opportunity for building relationships for future collaborations while advancing the discussion of these important topics with experts from around the world,” said Arve Lee Willingham, BSc, DVM, Ph.D., associate dean for research and postgraduate studies and professor of One Health at RUSVM. Willingham also serves as president of the ACACPMT.

RUSVM has focused research programs with a One Health emphasis on emerging infectious and zoonotic diseases, conservation medicine and ecosystem health.
