WALTHAM, Mass., Nov. 15, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Respiratory Motion, Inc. (Waltham, Massachusetts, USA) the global leader in minute ventilation monitoring and Corestone Biosciences, an innovative medical device company in anesthesia and analgesia headquartered in Beijing, China have entered into an agreement to form a Joint Venture Company (JV). The JV will offer a new generation of Respiratory Volume Monitors based on Respiratory Motion’s ExSpiron platform, along with other novel critical care solutions for hospital and home markets. The JV will operate out of Zhengzhou in Henan province and through a broad network to deliver its services across China and globally.

“The establishment of this joint venture with CorestoneBio comes at a time of growing demand for respiratory solutions in China and globally,” said Weiping Yang, PhD, Chairman of Corestone Biosciences. “Respiratory Motion is at the forefront of medical device innovation and has developed and commercialized high-quality monitoring solutions, such as the ExSpiron, the first and only monitoring system that can measure Minute Ventilation for all patients. Respiratory Motion is an ideal partner in our efforts to meet the demand of physicians in China who have been waiting for a product that can reliably identify and continuously monitor respiratory compromise.

In addition to its role as a shareholder, Respiratory Motion will contribute to the JV with its extensive expertise in developing high-tech monitoring platforms as well as providing its next generation ExSpiron Basic Monitoring Software (ExBMS), which offers the best continuous non-invasive measurement of respiration. ExSpiron Basic Monitoring Software makes it possible to measure patient respiration accurately and reliably without the need for calibration and is now an integral part of current and upcoming Respiratory Motion systems. ExBMS interfaces directly with nurse call systems as well as with third-party devices to connect to Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems for centralized data reporting and storage

“China is a fast-growing market and it is of great importance to our company,” said Jenny Freeman, Chairman and CEO of Respiratory Motion. “Our excellent partnership with CorestoneBio will lead to a substantial increase in manufacturing capabilities with the highest quality standards both cost effectively and efficiently. These new capabilities and an increase in our product offerings will assist us in expanding globally, as well as spearheading the widespread adoption of our ExSpiron respiratory monitoring solutions by Anaesthesiologists, Pulmonologists and other medical professionals in China. The establishment of this healthcare joint venture is, therefore, a natural next step for us in building our presence and footprint in important global markets.”

“Respiratory care is a growing business, and will be a major focus for our new company,” said Francis (Fei) Cao, CEO of the JV company. “Combining the resources of Corestone Biosciences and Respiratory motion will enable us to deliver an accelerated product launch and become a leading provider of novel respiratory and other healthcare solutions in China and worldwide.”
