Cambridge, MA, March 5, 2014 – Organizers of the Workers Compensation Research Institute’s (WCRI) 2014 Annual Issues & Research Conference (March 12-13, 2014) are expecting another record-breaking year for attendance at next Wednesday’s event in Boston, MA at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel.

“Whether you are managing workers’ compensation claims, involved in strategic planning, concerned with medical costs and utilization, or just looking for a better understanding of workers’ compensation—this conference provides unique and valuable information,” said Dr. Richard A. Victor, WCRI’s executive director.

One focus of the conference is the impact of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) on workers’ compensation systems. To that end, WCRI has brought in nationally-known experts, like Professor Jon Gruber of MIT, who is one of the architects of the ACA. David North of Sedgwick, Donald Hurter of AIG, and Chris Cunniff of Liberty Mutual will also form an expert panel that will peer into the future of workers’ compensation and healthcare reform.

Another focus of the conference is worker outcomes. WCRI will be sharing preliminary results from their newest worker outcomes study that identifies predictors of worker outcomes that are rarely looked at in workers’ compensation. Other sessions highlight the latest research findings from WCRI and the special luncheon speaker is AFL-CIO President Steve Tolman who will be giving a talk titled, “Pain Medication, Addiction and Heartache.”

The WCRI conference, an annual two-day event, is a leading workers’ compensation forum for policymakers, employers, labor advocates, insurance executives, health care organizations, claims managers, researchers, and others. Conference participants will leave with new insights, valuable networking contacts, and a better understanding of key issues in today’s competitive environment.
