PolyRemedy, Inc. Announces Results of Clinical Study and Releases New HealSmart™ Software

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - January 03, 2013) - PolyRemedy, a provider of wound management systems to home health agencies, today announced results from a recent clinical study along with a new version of its HealSmart Software Platform.

The prospective observational study of 155 home care patients was conducted at St. James Home Health Services (Chicago Heights, Ill.) and compared healing rates of 73 chronic wounds treated using PolyRemedy’s HealSmart Personalized Antimicrobial Dressings to 82 chronic wounds using other modalities. Patients treated with the HealSmart dressings demonstrated better healing rates over a 120 day period including:

  • More healed wounds (44% vs. 33%)
  • Fewer stalled or deteriorating wounds (18% vs. 28%)
  • Increased Median Wound Area Reduction (86% vs. 72%)

“These results are meaningful as they represent a real world use of the HealSmart System and Dressings,” said Cameron McKennitt, President and COO. “The results are particularly compelling as the study used no exclusion criteria that could have removed difficult wounds in either cohort. In fact, the wounds treated using HealSmart were on average, slightly larger at the start, yet showed more and faster healing.”

In addition to the clinical study, the Company also announced the release of its HealSmart 3.0 software system. This release includes features to simplify the user workflow and provide enhanced analytics, as well as architecture enhancements such as HTML5 and RESTful web services to support integration with other IT platforms and electronic health record systems.

HealSmart continues to demonstrate value for home health agencies. “HealSmart is a comprehensive solution that improves our agency’s performance,” said Cynthia Ringling, co-owner of several Interim Healthcare agencies. “The personalized antimicrobial wound dressings ensure the right wound therapy is applied at the right time, while the alerts and analytics provide visibility into each wound’s performance. We rolled out the HealSmart solution at our branch in Pueblo, CO in September and are excited to get all of our branches on the HealSmart solution.”
