Polymedco Partners With Colon Cancer Prevention Project

CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y., Feb. 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Polymedco and the Colon Cancer Prevention Project in Louisville, KY are kicking butt together!

Polymedco is supporting the Colon Cancer Prevention Project’s educational events, parties and walk/runs to spread awareness of CRC screening. In March, Polymedco is supporting the Bottoms Up Bash Presented by KentuckyOne Health, open to the public with guests ranging from physicians and nurses to people impacted directly by colon cancer. Polymedco is honored to have colorectal cancer survivor Caleb Payne as our representative at this event.

In response to the invitation, Caleb said, “I was diagnosed at stage 3 CRC when I was 52 years old. I was a firefighter: healthy and active but stupidly delayed my screening. I’ve made it my mission to raise awareness around this disease and the importance of screening. When I hiked the Appalachian Trail last March through August, I had a chance to visit Polymedco and get to know many of the people that share my goal of education and screening, so it is my pleasure to be there as their representative.”

In August, Polymedco will be sponsoring the Project’s Kicking Butt 5k. This is an educational run to spread awareness across Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Also, Polymedco is supporting the Colon Cancer Prevention Project’s “Project Innovation” grants, which provide funds to organizations and people who have creative ideas on how to raise awareness about colon cancer screening in Kentucky and Southern Indiana.

“The Colon Cancer Prevention Project is thrilled to continue its partnership with Polymedco in 2016. We have shared missions of getting more people screened for colon cancer and saving lives. Through Polymedco’s support of the Project’s events and programs, the Project is able to build its efforts and reach more people across Kentucky and Southern Indiana who need to hear about life-saving colon cancer screenings. Also: Polymedco kicks butt!” said Andrea Shepherd, Executive Director of Colon Cancer Prevention Project.

About Colon Cancer Prevention Project: The Colon Cancer Prevention Project was founded in 2004 by Dr. Whitney Jones, a Louisville gastroenterologist with a passion for preventing colon cancer. Dr. Jones began the organization after diagnosing several patients with colon cancer within one week. Knowing the cancer is highly preventable with appropriate screening, he set out to make a change. The Project is now based in Louisville, Ky. and encompasses volunteers throughout the state and four full-time staff members and a part-time administrative assistant. The Project is Kentucky and Southern Indiana’s only non-profit focused solely on ending colon cancer. Its work includes education, advocacy, health systems improvement and survivor support.
