Physicians’ Education Resource® to Present Five CE-Certified Satellite Symposia at the 44th ONS Annual Congress

CRANBURY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Physicians’ Education Resource® (PER®), a worldwide leading resource for continuing medical education (CME), will host five CE-Certified satellite symposia during the Oncology Nursing Society’s (ONS) Annual Congress. These programs will be held at the Anaheim Marriott in California on April 10 and 12.

The PER® satellite symposia slated for the ONS annual conference are:

  • Onco-Nurse Academy™: 101 on CAR T-Cell Therapies, which will be held as a dinner symposium on Thursday, April 10, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Marriott Marquis Center Ballroom. The program will be chaired by Cameron Turtle, MBBS, Ph.D., FRACP, FRCPA, associate professor at University of Washington School of Medicine and associate member of the clinical research division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. During this program, the expert faculty will provide information on the role of CAR T-cell therapy in treating patients with hematologic malignancies as well as review the recent and ongoing clinical trials evaluating the future role of CAR T-cell therapy.   • Nursing Essentials: Optimized Care Strategies for the Patient With Advanced Renal Cell Carcinoma, which will be held as a desert symposium on Thursday, April 10, from 8 to 9:30 p.m. in the Platinum Ballroom 1-3. The program will be co-chaired by Robert A. Figlin, M.D., FACP, Steven Spielberg Family Chair in Hematology-Oncology, the director of the division of hematology/oncology, the deputy director of integrated oncology service line and a professor of medicine and biomedical sciences at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and Laura S. Wood, M.S.N, RN, OCN, renal cancer research coordinator at Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Center. During this program, the expert faculty will provide attendees with a knowledge of the biology underpinning new therapies, clinical data leading to approvals, and how to mitigate and manage adverse events associated with targeted therapies and immunotherapy.   • Working Group to Optimize Outcomes in Myelofibrosis and Polycythemia Vera: Real-World Applications for Nurses, which will be held as a breakfast symposium on Friday, April 12, from 6 to 7:30 a.m. in the Marriott Grand Ballroom E-K. The program will be co-chaired by Daniel J. DeAngelo, M.D., Ph.D., professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, and chief of the division of leukemia at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Ilene Galinsky, M.S.N., B.S.N., ANP-C, senior program research nurse practitioner at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. During this program, the expert faculty will update oncology nurses on recent developments in the management of patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms including myelofibrosis and polycythemia vera, as well as explain the key role that oncology nurses play in coordinating the multidisciplinary care team to manage treatment-related adverse events and maximize treatment adherence.   • Optimizing Outcomes in Melanoma with BRAF/MEK Inhibitor and Immunotherapeutic Strategies: Essentials for the Onco-Nurse, which will be held on as a dinner symposium on Friday, April 12, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Marriott Grand Ballroom E-K. The program will be chaired by Omid Hamid, M.D., chief of translational research and immunotherapy and director of melanoma therapeutics at The Angeles Clinic and Research Institute. During this program, the expert faculty will discuss the latest trends in the treatment of patients with advanced-stage melanoma using treatments such as immune checkpoint inhibitors and BRAF/MEK inhibitors.   • Recognizing and Treating Oncologic Emergencies in the Cancer Patient: What Does the Nurse Need to Know? which will be held as a desert symposium on Friday, April 12, 8 to 9:30 p.m. in the Platinum Ballroom 1-3. The program will be chaired by Beth Fairman, Ph.D., CNP, adult nurse practitioner in the department of hematologic oncology and blood disorders at Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Center. During this program, the expert faculty will highlight best practices in identifying patients at risk of oncologic emergencies, strategies to recognize and treat associated symptoms, and applications of nursing management strategies across a continuum of care.
