East Hills, N.Y. (July 2, 2008) – Pall Corporation (NYSE: PLL), a global leader in filtration, separation and purification systems and technologies, today announced the formal inauguration of its newest Pall Advanced Separation Systems (PASS) facility, located in Hinjewadi, Pune, India’s fast-growing technology center. The newly completed Pune facility is the company’s fifth PASS center worldwide and the latest strategic addition to its global customer support infrastructure, which Pall developed to meet the rapidly expanding needs of its customers in both established and emerging markets.
PASS is the applications, engineering and procurement entity for Pall’s global process systems business. PASS supports Industrial and Life Sciences customers with multi-disciplinary teams of engineers and scientists who have market-intimate knowledge of applications and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)/Good Automated Manufacturing Practice (GAMP) operating parameters for separation and filtration systems in water, energy, biological and biopharmaceutical processes. PASS provides integrated process solutions that meet regulatory, industry and customer requirements at all levels, including systems design, project management, systems fabrication, documentation, risk analysis, validation/qualification, installation, operational training and complete after-market service.
Pune PASS Facility The 10,000-sq.-ft. Pune facility is designed to support a full range of industrial and life sciences applications, providing customized process solutions for both laboratory and production-scale separation and purification, including direct flow filtration (DFF), tangential flow filtration (TFF) and chromatography. Key capabilities encompass all stages of process system design, engineering and project management to meet all customer specifications for quality, consistency, scalability, process optimization, time and cost.
PASS Industrial The Pune center fulfills direct orders from industrial customers across Asia and also provides additional on-shore engineering capacity and project management support to Pall operations in the United States, Europe and Australia. The Pune industrial team includes a substantial staff of engineers, project managers and purchasing professionals who are currently fulfilling orders for refinery applications and water processing.
“System orders represent a growing segment of our business, and regional proximity to our customers is critical to sustaining this trend. Establishing a PASS presence in Pune not only answers this need, it also gives us access to a highly qualified pool of engineering talent to support our continued growth in the future,” said Richard Jackson, Vice President, PASS Industrial.
PASS Life Sciences To support the highly specialized needs of Pall’s life sciences customers, a 4,000-sq.-ft. pilot and system test laboratory was completed at the Pune center last month. This PASS life sciences lab offers a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) capability for swift validation and rapid scaling to full production. Column packing is also available in Pune, providing regional access to best-practice chromatography processes for Asian companies that previously relied on Europe or the U.S. for their column packing requirements.
Resolute™ columns from Pall subsidiary Euroflow are the industry benchmark for optimal chromatography process efficiency, capacity, peak symmetry and linear scalability. Pall’s new BioSepra® PPA and HEA HyperCel™ mixed-mode sorbents provide entirely new chemistries and separation options for purifying proteins, enabling higher yields and recovery, without the addition of lyotropic salts. This comprehensive chromatographic solution optimizes yield, purity and throughput in the safest possible manner, resulting in best-process economics at manufacturing scale.
India is one of the fastest-growing biopharmaceutical manufacturing centers in the world and the hub of the Asian market, with full capabilities in API (active pharmaceutical ingredients), biogenerics and biotechnology. Pall’s new PASS facility in Pune is the second recent addition to the company’s life sciences support network in the region, following the opening of a new filtration validation lab in Shanghai, China, in March 2008.
“India’s growing biopharmaceutical market requires large-scale investment in new process solutions. As a Total Fluid ManagementSM specialist with deep experience across the life sciences spectrum, Pall is well-positioned to answer this need,” said Ken Frank, President, Pall BioPharmaceuticals Global.
