New Name, New Direction Energize Optivus

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- A new name, a new look and a new direction are energizing Optivus Proton Therapy, the world’s pioneer in life-saving proton therapy technology.

The changes are aimed at communicating Optivus role as the undisputed marketplace leader in proton-based radiation oncology to a wider audience. They are among the elements of an aggressive new marketing and sales strategy launched by the successful San Bernardino-based innovator, formerly known as Optivus Technology Inc.

“Our new name and direction reflect our absolute commitment to advancing the field of proton technology and saving lives,” said Jon W. Slater, President and CEO of Optivus. “We want to make it crystal clear what we are about, right down to our name.”

Optivus Proton Therapy’s pioneering technology at Loma Linda University Medical Center, the world’s first Proton Beam Treatment Center, has treated more than three quarters of all proton cancer patients in the United States.

As part of its increased focus on sales and marketing, Optivus boosted its sales staff five-fold, and plans to present its proton beam therapy systems to more than 200 academic and medical institutions this year nearly a six-fold increase over last year.

The company is also dramatically increasing its trade show presence with an elaborate presentation planned at the upcoming annual meeting of The American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology in Los Angeles. Attendees at the October gathering will be offered free bus rides and tours of Optivus facilities.

Optivus also plans to participate at the 49th annual meeting of The American Association of Physicists in Medicine, scheduled for July in Minneapolis, Minn.

“Optivus has quietly developed the reputation as a pioneer in proton therapy technology and cutting-edge research. We intend to capture the burgeoning interest in developing proton therapy treatment centers while further cementing our position as the marketplace leader in the field of proton therapy,” Slater said.

There are four hospital-based proton treatment centers in the United States and ten hospital-based centers across the globe. But that number is expected to skyrocket to more than 100 worldwide over the next 20 years as the popularity of the highly successful cancer therapy continues to grow in the healthcare community.

Optivus recently produced a white paper analyzing the business implications healthcare stakeholders should weigh when considering whether the development of a proton beam therapy treatment center is a viable option for their institution. The white paper is available at http://www.optivus.com

Optivus systems have treated more than 11,500 patients in clinical settings since 1993 with astounding results that surpass conventional treatments. Optivus systems have been used in more than 380,000 individual patient treatments with a perfect safety record.
