Hannover, Germany, April 19, 2011 - In 2011 BIOTECHNICA is expanding its portfolio and from 11 – 13 October will, for the first time, serve as a marketplace for service providers in the biotech and pharmaceuticals sector. “This event, which is quite unique in Europe, offers biotech and pharmaceutical companies an opportunity to meet an international spectrum of providers for the development and production of biopharmaceutical agents”, says Stephan Kühne, member of the Board at Deutsche Messe AG, Hannover, Germany. The BioServices Platform 2011 comprises a special exhibition with a two-day conference.
“It’s not possible for everyone to do everything”
Biotech and pharmaceutical companies are increasingly relying on networking and partnerships in order to further the research and development of new products and agents. This trend recognizes the fact that it is not possible for everyone to specialize in everything and that certain tasks and specialist areas of development work, testing, registration and certification – even production – can be more effectively outsourced. Another key trend is the increased level of cooperation with academic research. “These new trends will be addressed by the new BioServices Platform in 2011”, promises Kühne. “It will bring biotech and pharmaceutical companies together with highly specialized partners offering opportunities for cooperation across the entire added value chain – from the development of new active agents and pharmaceutical products to pre-clinical and clinical studies and culminating in the handling of approval, certification and registration procedures for new products.”
The new BioServices Platform differs from previous partnering arenas inasmuch as it offers service providers a dedicated pavilion where they can showcase their expertise. The pavilion’s “marketplace” character will facilitate comparisons and make it easier for potential partners to find the options and services best suited to their needs.
At the accompanying conference on 11 and 12 October, which takes place in the Convention Center at the Hannover Exhibition Grounds, leading figures from the sector will discuss new paradigms in the life sciences, developments in personalized medicine and biosimilars as well as trends in biopharmaceutical discoveries, development and production. Kühne points out: “Companies and professionals who may not yet have a concrete project in the pipeline will still derive important benefits from the conference and exhibition, which offer an unparalleled overview of market developments and opportunities within the sector.”
The BioServices Platform 2011 is supported by the consultants Beratungsgesellschaft Ernst & Young, Bio Deutschland e. V., Berlin, and TWINCORE, Zentrum für Experimentelle und Klinische Infektionsforschung (Center for Experimental and Clinical Infection Research), Hannover.
