PLEASANTON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--NeoTract, Inc., a medical device company focused on addressing unmet needs in the field of urology, is a proud sponsor of the second annual Drive for Men’s Health, which will begin today in Clermont, Fla.
“Their dedication to the health of men is evident in this event, which will help educate men about health conditions like benign prostatic hyperplasia – a condition that is not often discussed, despite the fact that more than 80 percent of men will experience symptoms by age 70.”
To increase awareness of men’s health issues and to encourage men to make their health a priority, Jamin Brahmbhatt, M.D., and Sijo Parekattil, M.D., co-directors of The PUR (Personalized Urology & Robotics) Clinic at South Lake Hospital, in affiliation with Orlando Health, will climb into an all-electric Tesla Model S and embark on a journey that will cover 6,008 miles, include more than 60 stops and feature hundreds of speakers, both at events along the way and online during the drive. The trip will go from Florida to New York, then west to Los Angeles, where the team will arrive on June 20.
During the charging stops, the doctors will take part in educational lectures and activities to raise awareness of the importance of getting better sleep, quitting smoking, being more active, eating healthy and decreasing stress. As urologists, Dr. Brahmbhatt and Dr. Parekattil plan to also increase awareness of men’s urological issues. The Drive for Men’s Health will make stops at many of the top cities in the country, including Jacksonville, Atlanta, Rocky Mount, NC, Winston-Salem, NC, New York City, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Detroit, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, and Phoenix.
“We are proud to support the Drive for Men’s Health and Dr. Brahmbhatt and Parekattil’s important goal of raising awareness of men’s health issues again this year,” said Dave Amerson, president and CEO of NeoTract. “Their dedication to the health of men is evident in this event, which will help educate men about health conditions like benign prostatic hyperplasia – a condition that is not often discussed, despite the fact that more than 80 percent of men will experience symptoms by age 70.”
BPH, also known as enlarged prostate, is a medical condition in which the prostate gland that surrounds the male urethra becomes enlarged with advancing age and begins to obstruct the urinary system. The condition is common, affecting approximately 38 million men in the United States alone. BPH symptoms include sleepless nights and urinary problems, and can cause loss of productivity, depression and decreased quality of life.
NeoTract’s FDA-cleared UroLift System is a novel, minimally invasive technology for treating lower urinary tract symptoms due to BPH. The UroLift permanent implants, delivered during a minimally invasive transurethral outpatient procedure, relieve prostate obstruction and open the urethra directly without cutting, heating, or removing prostate tissue. Clinical data from a pivotal 206-patient randomized controlled study showed that patients with enlarged prostate receiving UroLift implants reported rapid and durable symptomatic and urinary flow rate improvement without compromising sexual function. Patients also experienced a significant improvement in quality of life. Most common adverse events reported include hematuria, dysuria, micturition urgency, pelvic pain, and urge incontinence. Most symptoms were mild to moderate in severity and resolved within two to four weeks after the procedure.
