Naviscan PET Systems, Inc. Announces a New Chairman and Board Member

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Naviscan PET Systems, a privately held company and the leader in organ-specific molecular imaging, announced today the appointment of Paul J. Mirabella as Chairman of the Board, in addition to retaining his responsibilities as President and CEO, and the addition of Dr. Abhi Acharya to the Board of Directors.

Mr. Mirabella joined Naviscan as President and Chief Executive Officer in July 2007 bringing 32 years of leadership experience in the diagnostic imaging industry. Prior to joining Naviscan, he held the position of President and CEO for the Global Diagnostic Imaging division of GE Healthcare. Throughout his career, he has held global leadership roles in technology development, sales, service, marketing and business management in ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). He has contributed to the evolution of imaging technology and is responsible for the development of 4 patents in the area of Computed Tomography. Mr. Mirabella holds degrees in Aerospace Engineering and Applied Mechanics from Polytechnic Institute of New York, a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Central Florida University, and is a graduate of the GE Business Program accredited by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Dr. Acharya has over 30 years experience in the scientific and business aspects of the medical device field. His primary focus is in U.S. and International device laws, regulations and clinical trial strategies. Dr. Acharya has previously held numerous senior-level positions over a 16-year period beginning in 1977 at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, including Director of the Division of Cardiovascular, Respiratory and Neurological Devices, where he directed the review and approval of PMA, IDE and 510(k) submissions during a period of rapid evolution for device technologies that included the Artificial Heart and Implantable Defibrillators, Rate-responsive Pacemakers, Aneurysm Implants, Laser Catheters, and Coronary Stents. Dr. Acharya holds a B. Tech. Degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Biomaterials Engineering from Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois.
