FARMINGTON, CT (Feb, 2013) – Mott offers a sparger design that makes change outs easier. Mott has developed a quick change sparger that reduces the time and effort it takes to replace sparger elements in bioreactors and fermentors. The porous metal element can be purchased with a uniquely designed adapter that allows easy assembly to the mating sparger tip and easy removal for replacement after each batch.
In bioreactor and fermentor systems, optimal mass transfer of gases like oxygen or carbon dioxide is a difficult task to accomplish. Oxygen, in particular, is poorly soluble in water – and even less in cell culture and fermentation broths. Mott’s line of porous metal spargers can help oxygenation and regulation of carbon dioxide which are key factors to the successful operation of a bioreactor. Mott spargers introduce gases into liquids through millions of tiny pores, creating bubbles far smaller and more numerous than competitive sparging devices. The result is vastly greater mass transfer rates, which reduces the volume of process gas required. Many of these systems have been installed at numerous sites and have gained broad acceptance by process engineers.
This line of quick change spargers is just part of an entire suite of sparging and filtration products available to the Biotech and Pharmaceutical industries. These products are designed to comply with ASME-BPE Specifications, as well as cGMP guidelines. Mott can also provide clean room processing and packaging in their state-of-the-art Class 100 and Class 10,000 clean rooms.
