CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Modular Genetics, Inc. (Modular) has announced today that it has been invited to present at the 18th Annual CBB/IBA Joint Conference on Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing (http://www.uiowa.edu/~biocat/conference.html) on Tuesday, October 20, 2009. Kevin Jarrell, Ph.D., President and CSO, will present at 9:00 AM CDT. The conference will take place at the Iowa Memorial Union, Iowa City, Iowa. Dr. Jarrell will describe Modular’s system for automated microbial strain engineering, and the use of that system to generate microorganisms that convert cellulosic waste products into chemicals that provide benefit to consumers and are environmentally friendly. The conference is jointly organized by Dr. Mani Subramanian, Director the University of Iowa’s Center for Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing (CBB), and Doug Getter, Executive Director, Iowa Biotechnology Association (IBA). “Traditionally, the theme of the CBB Conference has been on cutting-edge technology in areas of Biocatalysis and Biotechnology. We are pleased to continue this tradition by hosting a presentation by Dr. Jarrell. Modular’s technology allows for the rapid development of microorganisms that convert underutilized agricultural residues into useful chemicals. We expect this technology to accelerate the growth of the sustainable chemistry industry. “ said Dr. Subramanian, Director, CBB and Professor, Chemical & Biochemical Engineering, U of Iowa.
