SOUTH JORDAN, Utah, Oct. 13, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Merit Medical Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:MMSI), a leading manufacturer and marketer of proprietary disposable medical devices used in interventional and diagnostic procedures, particularly in cardiology, radiology and endoscopy, today announced the unveiling of its new ThinkRadial™ website and educational initiative at thinkradial.com.
The radial approach, which uses the artery in the wrist as the entry point for cardiac catheterization and peripheral procedures rather than the more traditional femoral artery in the groin, has grown in popularity with up to 90% adoption in some parts of the world. Radial adoption has been slower in the United States, but momentum is growing quickly. Merit’s ThinkRadial is an educational initiative to provide specialized training courses and information to help interventional cardiologists master the skills necessary to ensure successful radial access.
The benefits of radial access, including easier access, fewer complications, greater patient comfort, and faster recovery, have been well documented, but the amount of training required to become proficient in transradial intervention has slowed its widespread adoption in the United States.
“We are introducing thinkradial.com as a global platform to educate and share information about radial access among global healthcare professionals,” said Fred P. Lampropoulos, Merit’s Chairman and CEO. “We want to foster an ongoing, global discussion on a wide range of radial topics with current research, training courses and events, and a place where advances in medical device technology can be considered.”
