Startup Melicor Medical LLC has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to develop and market a minimally invasive surgery cleaning device. Boulder-based Melicor Medical’s device is called the LLICS, or Laparoscopic Lens Internal Cleaning System, said Ken Maydew, the company’s president and chief executive. The device uses a surfactant, a soapy substance that’s biocompatible with the human body, to clean the lens of a laparoscopic device being used during surgery, Maydew said. The new device is expected to save surgeons time and frustration, he said.
