Makers of Medical Devices Fret Over Tax, FDA Approval

Portland Business Journal -- Northwest medical device companies fear they may get hit with a double whammy. Already the federal health care reform law has imposed a new tax of 2.3 percent of revenue on the industry, intended to help pay for the $940 billion reform effort. Now the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is reviewing its approval requirements for devices to see if they need to be more stringent.
