Job Growth Follows Recent Spate Of Biotech Buyouts

Boston Business Journal -- Some recent international acquisition of Bay State biotechs are translating into promising job growth. Unlike the recent sales of local corporate stalwarts -- namely Filene’s -- to out-of-state buyers that then targeted thousands of job cuts, today’s outsiders are swooping in to gain a market foothold and exploit the region’s life sciences talent base.

For example, last week’s news that Japan’s Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd. plans to pay $8.8 billion for Cambridge-based Millennium Pharmaceuticals Inc. is expected by analysts and company insiders to grow jobs here over time -- well beyond Millennium’s existing 1,000-person employee base.

A number of observers see the Millennium (Nasdaq: MLNM) news as a prime example of the jobs trend ahead.
