SAN DIEGO, Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- IYIA Technologies, SeQual, and Reva Medical were recognized for their innovative new medical technologies at BIOCOM’s First Annual DeviceFest, sponsored by Mentus Life Science. Running the gamut of new technologies aimed at improving healthcare, more than 20 medical device companies, including Digirad, N-Spine and Ophthonix participated at the event with more than 200 attendees, held at Invitrogen Corp. in Carlsbad.
“We are excited at the strong showing of new innovations in healthcare showcased at our first DeviceFest,” said Joe Panetta, president and CEO of BIOCOM. “With almost 50 device members in our membership and an upcoming Drug Device Summit in December, our efforts to support this important part of Southern California’s life science community are coming together strongly.”
San Marcos-based IYIA Technologies received the “Why Didn’t I Think of That?” award for the O2 Misly, a device that treats slow healing wounds like diabetic foot ulcers, where extreme cases can result in lower-extremity amputation. The award is given to recognize the most obvious solution to an unmet medical need.
San Diego-based SeQual, received the “Star Trek: Far Out Innovation” award for the Eclipse, a small, lightweight, portable oxygen system that helps eliminate the need for reusable oxygen tanks. The award is given to the most innovative, pioneering medical device.
Reva Medical, also based in San Diego, received the “Humanitarian Award” for its bioresorbable drug-eluting stent that treats coronary artery disease without the patient having a permanent implant. This award was given to the device that will have the greatest impact on overall healthcare.
“We couldn’t be more pleased with the turnout of companies for the first annual DeviceFest. It was a great testament to the growth and dedication of the region’s medical technology industry,” said Joleen Schultz, principal of Mentus Life Science and co-chair of BIOCOM’s Medical Technology Committee. “It is always exciting to get an inside look at the cutting-edge innovations happening within the medical device community.”
