Dublin, Ireland, June 16th, 2011 – ICON plc, (NASDAQ: ICLR; ISIN:IE0005711209), a global provider of outsourced development services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device industries, today announced a seminar series in Asia Pacific. The series kicks off with a set of oncology seminars in Shanghai, China, and Taipei, Taiwan, on the 17th and 20th June respectively. Further seminars will take place in other Asia Pacific locations over the coming months and the seminar series will also broaden in focus to include other therapeutic areas.
The first oncology seminars will bring together international experts to share their experiences of global oncology studies, while local Key Opinion Leaders will provide insight into the local clinical trial landscape. Attendees will learn about the main reasons for oncology study failures and how to mitigate risks and increase efficiencies in clinical development programs. The seminar in Taipei is co-sponsored by the National Centre of Excellence for Clinical Trial Research and the National Taiwan University Hospital.
“Oncology trials require specific clinical expertise and while some reasons for failure can’t be predicted, taking control of the basics of study design and implementation can make all the difference,” commented Malcolm Burgess, Executive Vice President, ICON Clinical Research. “We are running this seminar series to share the lessons we have learnt from running large global trials across all therapeutic areas and to also provide a networking environment for pharma companies to share their experiences and learn from the experiences of others.”
