GNS Healthcare Hires CIO To Scale Delivery Of Causal Machine Learning And Simulation Platform REFS

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., April 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading precision medicine company GNS Healthcare (GNS) today announced the appointment of healthcare informatics expert Benjamin Bielak as Chief Information Officer. Bielak is responsible for scaling and supporting the delivery of GNS technology, including the GNS REFS (Reverse Engineering and Forward Simulation) causal machine learning and simulation platform and other end user tools that explore the impact of treatment choices. He joins GNS as a growing number of health plans, health systems, and biopharmaceutical companies are signing on to access the technology, including through new licensing arrangements.

“Many managed care and biopharmaceutical leaders now understand that causal inference and simulation is the only type of artificial intelligence technology truly capable of delivering the ROI they’ve been searching for,” said Colin Hill, Chairman and CEO of GNS. “As more of these organizations call on our REFS platform to answer ‘holy grail’ questions centered around “what works and for whom”, Ben will play an essential role as we meet the growing demand for access to the GNS technology.”

“REFS is an exceptional, highly differentiated platform in a world of increasing noise about big data and artificial intelligence,” said Bielak. “I am incredibly passionate about the opportunity to help GNS deploy the technology on a much larger scale and to support GNS customers as they use this incredible platform to make a real difference in the world by improving the health of individual patients and reducing the cost of care.”

Bielak brings 25 years of executive and senior information technology experience to GNS. He most recently served as the Director of Academic Technology at Harvard University. Prior to his work at Harvard, Bielak was the Chief Information Officer at Dovetail Health, a high-growth product and services company focused on reducing costs through pharmacy-focused interventions. He previously held roles as Manager of Development and Integration at Boston Medical Center and Senior Manager of Technology at Sapient.

Bielak holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Bentley University, where his studies focused on change management, and a master’s degree from Boston University in computer science. He maintains two certifications, the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) Certified Healthcare Chief Information Officer (CHCIO) and the Health Information Management System Society (HIMSS) Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS).
