GlaxoSmithKline Reports Data From Phase III Study of Once-weekly Albiglutide in Type 2 Diabetes

ROCKVILLE, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Attached is a press release issued earlier this morning by GlaxoSmithKline, announcing that detailed findings from the Harmony 6 Phase 3 study comparing albiglutide to prandial insulin (Lispro), were presented today at the American Diabetes Association Meeting (ADA) in Philadelphia, USA, and show that the effect is maintained out to 52 weeks. Results from the Harmony 7 Phase 3 study comparing albiglutide (50 mg) to once-daily liraglutide (1.8 mg) were also presented.

Albiglutide, an investigational once-weekly glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, was created by HGS using its proprietary albumin-fusion technology, and was licensed to GSK in 2004. HGS is entitled to fees and milestone payments that could amount to as much as $183 million – including $33.0 million received to date – in addition to single-digit net royalties on worldwide sales if albiglutide is commercialized.
