Experts are to look at genetic advances in the NHS in Scotland. The group, set up by Health Minister Malcolm Chisholm, is led by Ex-Chief Medical Officer Sir Kenneth Calman. He and his colleagues will examine genetic services and how new scientific knowledge is used. The first meeting will be later this month. Ministers insist the aim is to keep Scotland at the forefront of genetic research being carried out by the biotech industry and universities. Mr Chisholm said: “Scotland has well established, internationally respected genetic services and I am extremely proud of our standing at the forefront of this field. “I want to ensure we keep pace with developments and remain one of the world leaders in the field, and it is for this reason I have established this expert group to review the genetic services currently being offered by the NHS in Scotland.”
