GE Healthcare announces the agreement to acquire the Brazilian company Omnimed

São Paulo, August 6th, 2013 - GE Healthcare announces today that is has agreed to acquire Omnimed. The incorporation of the Brazilian company, situated in Belo Horizonte (MG), is a part of the strategy to expand the presence of the GE healthcare unit in the Latin America region, especially in Brazil, and it will expand its technologies portfolio offered to the market. Omnimed develops and commercializes medical equipment designed for monitoring vital functions of the patients, with solutions used in hospitals and clinics during medical screening, surgical procedures or in Intensive Therapy Units (UTI - Unidades de Terapia Intensiva).

In addition to reinforcing the company´s strategy to invest more and more in the Country and develop its operation as a local supplier, the acquisition will also stimulate and enable actions which reduce costs, expand access and provide improvement of the quality of health services rendered to the Brazilian population. “The acquisition of Omnimed will allow us not only to contribute to the Country´s growth, but also serve even more comprehensively the specific demands of local customers, who seek from equipment with high level of technological sophistication to solutions with better cost-benefit ratio”, says Joe Shrawder, GE Healthcare president and CEO for Latin America.

“Not only Brazilian customers will benefit from this agreed acquisition and consequent expansion of the solutions portfolio, but also, we will be able to expand the range of equipment, which can be exported to Latin America– thus reinforcing the company´s commitment to expand the local production”, he adds.

Upon closing, , the Omnimed solutions will be a part of the GE Healthcare Life Care Solutions business unit (Healthcare), one of the company´s most profitable modalities worldwide. The technologies developed by Omnimed are complementary to the GE Healthcare portfolio in monitoring equipment and will allow the expansion of its coverage on the healthcare market. “We are quite optimistic and we believe that, upon the union of the local monitor development capacity , which Omnimed has, with our expertise and global presence, we will be able to compete in a more effective way in this segment in Brazil”, affirms the executive.

Expansion on Brazilian land

GE Healthcare has been reinforcing more and more its objective to expand its participation in Brazil, and the operation announced today confirmed this position, once Omnimed represents the second acquisition of the company in the Country. A year ago, GE Healthcare announced the purchase of XPRO, a Brazilian manufacturer of X-Ray units, with emphasis on cardiology, neurology and interventionist radiology with more than 15 years of experience.

Omnimed in the GE Healthcare portfolio

With Omnimed, GE Healthcare will add 85 direct employees to its current team in the Country. Founded in 2001, Omnimed works on development and commercialization of medical equipment for monitoring the vital functions of the patients. The solutions are used in hospitals and clinics during medical screening, surgical procedures or in Intensive Therapy Units (UTI).

Omnimed has monitors of the Modular Multi-parameter and Bed Monitoring Station models. The company also counts on a research & software development center from the BHTec, , Technological Campus of Minas Gerais State.
