Fresenius Medical Care Pledges Further Equipment Following Nepal Earthquake

HONG KONG, CHINA--(Marketwired - June 12, 2015) -

Over one month on from the catastrophic earthquake that hit Nepal on 25 April, the country continues to be plagued by anguish and chaos. The death toll has risen to nearly 8,800, while 140,000 homes have been destroyed leaving thousands of people homeless and reliant on aid supplies.

Fresenius Medical Care continues to work closely with the dialysis community in Nepal to provide an uninterrupted delivery of dialysis care to those patients in need. Following consultation with a leading Nephrologist it has become clear that much vital lifesaving equipment has been destroyed or irreparably damaged in the earthquake, this has proved catastrophic considering the large number of crush injury victims. As part of their ongoing effort to provide humanitarian aid to kidney patients worldwide, Fresenius Medical care has pledged a further donation of equipment in addition to their earlier donation. After seeking the advice of a water technology expert for the region, Fresenius Medical Care Asia-Pacific will be donating 5 portable Reverse Osmosis water treatments to ensure the safe delivery of medical grade water that is vital for dialysis treatment.

As with their earlier donation of 10 dialysis machines, Fresenius Medical Care will be working closely with their contact in the region in order to ensure a safe passage for the lifesaving equipment, which will be sent to the Health Care Foundation Nepal (HECAF)/ National Kidney Center (NKC) in Kathmandu. Dr. Michael Etter, Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs made comment on the donation; “Fresenius Medical Care, The Renal Company is proud to be playing a part in these relief efforts and hopes that this equipment will help lessen the burden of the Nepalese people as they bravely struggle on in the face of such adversity.”
