Four-Year Stem Cell Tissue Project

A team of British scientists are leading an ambitious project which could see human tissue grown from stem cells available for transplant in the next four years. Researchers from the University of Liverpool will develop the technology to target heart failure, diabetes, chronic ulcers and degenerative diseases. The £17 million project, which is funded by the European Commission, hopes to take the development of tissue engineering a step further by bringing together 23 academic and industrial partners from across the continent.
