When the company we in the Boston area know as Genzyme put out its first press release of the year this morning, missing was the familiar green logo with the name “Genzyme” in all lower-case letters.
As of Jan. 1, the company is referring to itself as “Sanofi Genzyme,” a change that was announced in July 2015 as Genzyme’ parent company, the French drugmaker Sanofi (NYSE: SNY), announced a reorganization. Under that plan, the company that’s been known as “Genzyme, a Sanofi company” ever since it was acquired in 2011 would gain Sanofi’s oncology and a few other drugs, and could possibly gain some employees, but would change its name to “Sanofi Genzyme.”
